Talk:Utah House Positions

At some point I plan to email my representative, Jackie Biskupski, to find out her position on statewide franchise agreements and Utopia/municiple broadband. But I don't really know what statewide franchise agreements do, and I don't know if either of these things are on her radar at this point. So it would be nice to have introductions to these matters here in this wiki. Then I could make a reference to them. That way she could see exactly what I am talking about. It seems like a nice way of establishing a common frame of reference in which to communicate. Also, it would be good if this wiki became the "go-to" place for information on these matters. Then pointing the legislators to it would help establish it. But, that would work best if we build the descriptions before we start collecting legislators' opinions.

Also, the legislature is about to start. I imagine they will be up to their ears in specific bills. So it does not seem like the best time to ask for an overall opinion or philosopical position. Right now, I think it would be best to focus on specific bills, if there are any, put our efforts into describing and evaluating them here. Then we could make contacts about those bills specifically. State-wide franchise agreements allow a telecommunications company to bypass local government and essentially cherry-pick their service areas. Naturally, this is not desirable to meet a goal of universal service.

As far as contacting legislators to get their positions, I'm going to work on that through the election cycle. Right now, let's concentrate on filling in names, addresses, e-mails, etc. --Jesse 23:50, 16 January 2008 (MST)

OK. We can make each representative's name a link to their page on the state website, which gives email, address, phone numbers, education, profession, affiliations, legislative assignments, sponsored legislation, and a picture. I put in an example for District 1. This looks like the easiest way to go. What do you think? John Havey 10:50, 17 January 2008 (MST)

That should be fine. We'll also want to expand the table to accomodate all 75 districts. I've been repeating the table headings every 15 rows for readability. --Jesse 11:34, 17 January 2008 (MST)
