2008 Campaign for State House 25
Candidate Responses
I received the follow response: "My knowledge of the technical implications of your issues is limited. I can speak to the issues only from a general perspective of the principles underlying the questions. As a Constitution Party candidate, and as I believe, the federal government must be reduced to the powers granted by the constitution. The larger needs of society are within the scope of the people's power so far as they do not violate the principles of individual freedom. It should take more than an act of congress for the federal governmet to assume ownership and management of resources such as communication frequencies and to asume governance of technology applications, for example. The need for such regulations may be compelling, but such powers as the federal government assumes must be specified in an amendment to the constitution, and ratified by three quarters of the states after passing two thirds of the Senate and the House as specified. I would guess this has never been done, as it has become a habit for our governing authorities to just ignore the Constitution.
I personally regard Qwest as a bad corporate citizen. I am personally aware of unfair tactics they have used to suppress and put small rural phone companies out of business. The case I am familiar with is Beehive Telephone which serves several rural areas.
What I have heard of UTOPIA or the iProvo is from the mainstream media, which I consider as well to bad corporate citizens for their bias in favor of a managed society molded for the benefit of the very wealthy who generally are afflicted with a penchant to inflict programs for change according to their self-supposed better vision for us, and utilize a variety of change-agent organizations which they fund with tax-favored funds for supposed "charity" contributions.
If I get a scent of an organization that is established to promote a benefit for a small elite group of beneficiaries, at expense of the people, I will call it a bad citizen organization. So tell me about what you are trying to do, and who will run and benefit from UTOPIA and iProvo, and I will tell you how I think constitutional principles should be applied to your efforts.
I might find reason to support a local government taking action for its citizens and perhaps prefer that sort of action over State or federal regulations, but you would need to explain to me why private enterprise can not do the job without any government oversight. In general government power and oversight will be corrupt and will be used to benefit a few rather than serve the ordinary citizen, because the wealthy pay for better lobbyists and buy more legislators.
You are welcome to reply and educate me in regard to your particular issues here and to your purposes."
I later received the following additional response after providing some background information: "With the circumstances as you have described, my belief in a limited government would work out in favor of deregulation and increased competition, and a level playing field in regard to any unavoidable regulation. Further, I share your experience and frustration with "incumbents" in any service or business sector. It is my further observation that government power is universally abused by the established and wealthy to the detriment of others. We have an oligarchy in economics and government that needs to be disassembled. In the times of the American Revolution, a small portion of the population took up arms against the global military power of the day, which was influenced by the leading globalist corporation of the day to impose duties and taxes to force the colonists to do business with them exclusively. The American rebels, by force of arms gained independence and freedom. The Constitution gives the people the means to replace a government, that is judged onerous, excessive, and heavy-handed, by the power of the ballot. At this present moment, our system of checks and balances is broken, with all branches of government usurping power to themselves, and the citizen in all cases deprived of rights that are inherent to humanity.
The solution to this situation is not some form of statism, such as socialism, communism, or neoconservatism which is militarism and fascism. The answer is for people to return to the source of their liberty, and to take responsibility for themselves, and in a manly manner raise objection and effective opposition to our elitist administrators, and force them at the ballot box to withdraw from their positions of power, which they abuse."
